Water Walk underway

A Water Walk from Sudbury to Spanish is underway on Highway 17.

Nipissing West OPP says the Junction Creek Water Walk is underway once again this morning from Sudbury to Spanish.

The Junction Creek Water Walk is a 135-kilometre Water Walk that began in Garson on Thursday and is expected to arrive in Spanish at the former site of the residential schools and the mouth of the Spanish River this weekend.

Police are reminding motorists to slow down in both directions to slow down when they see the walkers.

Junction Creek Water Walk T-shirts with the logo designed by Anishinaabe Kwe Page Sigwan Piniskwaigoni Chartrand modelled by one of our Advisors Minweyweywigaan Midewiwin Lodge Gmaa, Asiniy Kwe aka Edna Manitowabi.

Anishinaabe businesses Design de Plume digitalized the logo and Nish Tees gave a discount on the shirts in beautiful Indigenous circular economy.

The name of the Water Walk is “At the Water’s Edge” because the water that is Junction Creek ends beside Spanish Residential School, the largest in Ontario and the one all our Water Walk Elders and Advisors went to.

It is why they are having a private ceremony at the end of the Water Walk.

They will have a limited number of Water Walk tees to sell as part of their fundraising efforts.

They would also like to give a shout-out to the Mohawk Motel in Massey for being so kind and generous in the hosting of the  Elders and support of the Water Walk.
