Female students take part in Home Depot Workshops

Many young girls do not consider a trade in non-traditional areas, such as construction, but a local school board is hoping to remove those misconceptions by offering an opportunity for female students to see what is involved.

Several female students from four Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools will be making their way to the Sault Ste. Marie Home Depot today to take part in unique workshops.

Communications co-ordinator, Brigitte Morin points out statistics reveal that women are under-represented in the construction, industrial and service sectors.
She adds the purpose of these workshops is to provide girls with the opportunity to explore various building trades and a good way to demystify specialized trades for girls helping them to learn about rewarding careers in that sector of the economy.
Students from Blind River, Wawa, Chapleau and Sault Ste. Marie are taking part.
