Seniors Showcase star of Winterfest

The first-ever Seniors Showcase in Elliot Lake will now become an annual event as part of the city’s annual Winterfest.

The showcase held on Saturday at the Collins Hall attracted hundreds of people according to organizer Celia Sankar of the Diversity Canada Foundation.

She says the event was held to have local area seniors share their talents, develop networks and provide an opportunity to celebrate the older members of the community.

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says she was impressed with the event; more so with the presentation of awards and recognitions presented as part of the foundation’s closing ceremony for the foundation’s Seniors Project.
The project reached its goal of assisting 100 seniors to collect and preserve their life stories to pass on to their children and assist in growing the community’s history.

Sponsors included the foundation, the City of Elliot Lake, Maplejobs and the Government of Canada.
