Premier Kathleen Wynne is touring Northern Ontario and one of her first stops was Espanola. That’s where she announced a pilot project for rural health hubs to deliver innovative health care. There are five hubs in all, four in the north and one in the south and they’ll share $2.5 million over the next three years.
Espanola gets an extra $97,000 in operating funds this year plus $384,000 to replace the windows and roof at the hospital. Another recipient is the North Shore Health Centre in Blind River, but there’s no breakdown on what it receives. Wynne is visiting about a dozen towns and cities in the north including Elliot Lake, Blind River, Little Current and North Bay.
