The union at Laurentian University is accusing the school of infringing on academic freedoms. At issue is a psychology professor who uses offensive language in his class including the F-word. The students were aware of Michael Persinger’s methods at the start of the semester and signed a waiver to that effect. But Laurentian says Persinger had no right to use the waiver as a condition of taking his course. The school says only Laurentian can set standards. Laurentian has barred Persinger from teaching his course for the rest of the school year and the union is now trying to get the decision reversed.
