Elliot Lake dancer off to international competition highlighting jazz and contemporary skills

An Elliot Lake teen is gearing up for an international dance competition.
Thirteen-year-old Nicole Carlson is a competitive dancer at DanceWorks and is practicing her moves to represent Canada at the Dance World Cup in Burgos, Spain, this July.
Her mother, Jennifer, says Nicole’s path to the World Cup started out as a jazz solo at the Bedazzled Dance Competition last year earning her the title of World Performer and qualifying her for the international competition.
With that win, Jennifer says her daughter was able to audition for the contemporary dance team and successfully secured spots in both jazz and contemporary styles.
She will take to the stage several times now that she is a part of an open extended line, a large jazz group, a contemporary large group, and a jazz duet.
The Dance World Cup, taking place from July 3 to July 12, is one of the largest dance competitions globally, second only to the Olympics.
Jennifer says at the end of June, Nicole will take part in a full stage dress rehearsal, complete with costumes and makeup, alongside her fellow Canadian team members.
The encouragement from her dance instructors, Kelsey Patry, Brooke Patry, and Christine Brunet, owner of DanceWorks, is invaluable.
“They are incredibly proud of her and are thrilled about this opportunity,” says Jennifer.
