The Algoma-Manitoulin Ontario NDP Riding Association will host its Candidate Nomination Meeting this evening via Zoom.
According to the release, the nomination meeting for our riding will be held this evening, on Thursday, January 30th at 7 p.m., via Zoom.
There are two nominees.
The first is Laura Owl, a wife and mother, a member of the Sagamok Anishnawbek, and a community leader born and raised in Algoma Manitoulin.
She has spent over two decades advocating for Indigenous issues, environmental sustainability, healthcare access, and education reform.
Owl holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Laurentian University, a Masters in Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the prestigious Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario and is currently completing her PhD in Management at the University of Phoenix.
The second candidate who hails from Elliot Lake is David Timeriski who lives in the city with his wife, Natalie.
With over three decades of service in various community roles, he has dedicated much of his career to helping others.
He spent 25 years as a Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Elliot Lake Fire Services and worked as a Handi-Lift Transit Bus driver, then a long career in emergency medical services as a Paramedic, serving communities across the North, including Manitouwadge, Espanola, and Elliot Lake.
In addition to his work in emergency services, he has served as a Court Enforcement Officer with the Ministry of the Attorney General for over 25 years, extending his impact across Ontario.

Mike Mantha, the incumbent, is running as an Independent.
Former Mississauga First Nation Chief and Anishinabek Nation Grand Chief Reg Niganobe has thrown his hat in the ring for the upcoming provincial election.
It was announced yesterday that he has been nominated to run as the Ontario Liberal candidate for the riding.
