Elliot Lake Museum Advisory Board looking forward to new home

Elliot Lake Museum Curator Amelia D’Amato told the museum advisory board last week the focus for the institution at this time is to update their online database.

She says it is important to integrate the new collection management system and prepare records for public consumption, so work will focus on updating the city website with a soft launch planned soon.

It’s planned to provide public access to the museum’s collections.

The main floor of a former church building will be used for a hybrid museum/performance theatre with a welcome centre also in the works.

It has also been recommended a working group be formed to oversee a survey to the public for feedback and grant applications will be forwarded to various ministries to aid the launch.

Staff will bring a recommendation to the Recreation and Culture Standing Committee meeting tonight regarding a federal grant from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.
