No survivors in plane crash

A federal Transportation Safety Board team has arrived in northwestern Ontario to look into the cause of a weekend plane crash that left four people dead.

Investigation continues into cadets’ deaths

Four Canadian military cadets have died after their car drove into the water at their campus in Ontario. The incident happened early on Friday on the Royal Military College campus in Kingston, Canada’s Department of National Defence said.

Officer cadets Jack Hogarth, Andrei Honciu, Broden Murphy and Andres Salek, all poised to graduate, died early Friday morning.

The car has been recovered and the investigation continues.

Honouring fallen police officers

Political leaders turned out yesterday, for the first in-person memorial to Ontario’s fallen police officers in the past two years.

The annual Ceremony of Remembrance, the 23rd, was held yesterday at the Ontario Police Memorial on the grounds of the Ontario Legislature.

Six more names were added to the list, including three officers who died in the line of duty over the past year.

Premier Doug Ford says these officers never wavered in their duty and made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the people of Ontario.

Maripol focus of Russian advance

Ukrainian President Volodymyr is accusing Russia of waging a “war of extermination” against his country.

Zelensky says artillery and rocket attacks on food warehouses and civilian areas in the eastern part of Ukraine have done nothing to help Russia’s advance and they’re just hurting civilians.

A mass evacuation of civilians from the southern port city of Mariupol is to get underway today.

An estimated 100-thousand people are still living in the devastated city.

Finland applies to join NATO

Reports from Finland say that country will formally announce it wants to join NATO on May 12th.

Local media say the day will begin with the formal approval by the country’s president, followed by a vote that’s expected to pass in Parliament.

The move would be a major blow to Russia.

Finland has strived to remain neutral since the end of the Second World War, sharing a 13-hundred-kilometre border with Russia.

Sweden is also expected to announce its application to join NATO later this month.

Delay with new cars

If you’re planning to purchase a new vehicle, get set for a long wait.

Global News says the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association is expecting the short supply to last well into next year.

It had been predicting the situation would ease by this summer.

While staffing and supply chain challenges have played a role, experts say the global computer chip shortage is a major reason for the slowdown in production.
