Manitoulin Island police chief found guilty of sexual assault

A Manitoulin Island police chief has been found guilty of sexual assault.

Terry McCaffrey, the police chief of the Wiikwemkoong Tribal Police was found guilty on Monday.

McCaffrey has been on leave with pay from the force since he was charged last year.

The Ontario Provincial Police launched an investigation into the 2019 sexual assault case after it was reported in 2020.

McCaffrey is to be back in court on May 10th for sentencing.

There is a publication ban in place to protect the victim’s identity.
