Blind River council rejects request from a resident to keep road open in winter

Blind River council decided two years ago not to keep a road open in the area, but a local resident says it is an important part of the town’s lifestyle.

Resident Sheila Fryer asked the council to reconsider its decision at this week’s meeting saying she was alarmed to find out that the Boom Camp Road is closed to pedestrians during the winter months.

She says with COVID, it is important for people to have access to the outdoors in a safe manner.

However, town CAO Katie Scott told the council the Boom Camp Road would cost around $60,000 every year and that does not include plowing or bringing it up to required standards.

In the end, the council decided the funds could be spent better elsewhere and rejected the request.
