Company partners with Nature Conservancy of Canada

Lafarge Canada is partnering with the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Rob Cumming who heads up environment programming for the company’s eastern Canada holdings says Lafarge donated $100,000 towards the recent acquisition of the Manitoulin Island Vidal Bay Forests and Shoreline property.

He says the company plans to donate more including assisting with the conservancy’s biodiversity strategies for the area, such as contributing materials like gravel, concrete and sand for trails, as well as helping with signage and publicity.

Lafarge has a 1,640-hectare quarry in Meldrum Bay with two international shipping terminals adjacent to the holding, so preserving the environment is also an important part of their mandate, adds Cummings.
