Rainbow District School Board is on track to have all its schools EcoSchools Canada Certified by 2022, a commitment made when the Board declared a climate change emergency two years ago.
Education director Bruce Bourget says by increasing sustainable practices, Rainbow schools will reduce their carbon footprint.
He says when the board pledged to redouble its efforts, 60 percent of schools had achieved certification, and now over half of all their schools are platinum-certified.
He adds the EcoSchools commitment is the cornerstone of the Climate Change Action Plan that was presented to the board earlier this fall.
