Brown water disruption in Espanola

A brown water disruption has been reported in various locations throughout Espanola.

Town clerk Joseph Burke says staff believes it is caused by some ice formation in the temporary trunk water main during the night’s very cold temperatures.

He says water testing has been performed at multiple locations and the findings indicate that the water is safe for consumption adding most of the locations that reported dirty water found that it cleared up after running their cold water tap for 15-30 minutes.

He stays the town is asking anyone experiencing brown water to run a cold water tap continuously with the hope it will subside.

Burke adds it is recommended that users refrain from using hot water or doing laundry during the disruption and if the water doesn’t clear within an hour or so, call Public Works office.
