Espanola council will not be eliminating one of the baseball fields to increase capacity on other fields.
Back in 2017, council approved the Recreation Master Plan, which included the recommendation that since all three ballfields were not being used to capacity, that one, C Field, be eliminated to be put to other uses.
However, the Recreation & Culture Advisory Committee and Leisure Services reviewed the recommendation and after consulting with users, recommended that it was not a good fit.
The committee informed council volunteer ball coaches were concerned that the elimination of the field would force the teams to spread the use of the fields into the weekends.
However, that would not work as that’s when many volunteers and families go camping.
Council agreed and will maintain all four ball fields.
