Swing bridge delays galling for motorists

NEMI Mayor Al MacNevin says he is somewhat surprised that the Ministry of Transportation has not provided any advisories or signage indicating they are doing repair work to the Swing Bridge in Little Current.

MacNevin says the town office has received some complaints about the long-wait times on the bridge in the overnight hours although no notification of the intermittent closures has been publicized.

He says repairs are being done to the large metal plates on the bridge, so it is only open for 15 minutes at the top of every hour overnight to allow for repairs.

He says usually there is also signage notifying motorists of the work being done.

MacNevin adds staff is looking into it following concerns raised by residents and commuters since the work began just over a week ago.
