Massey three-year-old learning to walk

It has been a while coming, especially with delays due to the pandemic, but a three-year-old from Massey is now on her feet.

Her mother had been told her daughter would not walk, talk or even live a normal life, but they are being proved wrong.

Alexcie Latendresse’s daughter, Malia, was born with spina bifida, bilateral clubfeet and bilateral hip dysplasia and the family knew they had some surgeries ahead.

Alexcie says Malia had two successful bilateral feet reconstruction surgeries in Montreal to straighten them and she is now wearing braces and learning to walk.

She adds the next step is double-hip surgery which will take place in the new year.

Alexcie and Malia’s father, Dylan, both acknowledge October as Spina Bifida month and say thank you to the wider community for their continued support, not only of their family, but for the cause.
