Red Wings ink deal with city

Elliot Lake council has given its consent to an agreement with the city’s Junior A hockey team, the Red Wings.

City Council has approved a bylaw stipulating the terms for use of the Centennial Arena including ice-time, security, and access to facilities.

Special Projects Manager, Steve Antunes says the team also agreed to the terms and repayment of the outstanding $50,000 loan its predecessors had with the city.

He says the first repayment of $25,000 should arrive this week and if the second payment is not received by the deadline of June of next year, the agreement will be null and void.

The approval came after about an hour of intense discussion and the final bylaw will now be drafted with the deal expiring April 30th, 2026.
