Making a trail accessible to people who use walkers and adding picnic tables that are designed for wheelchair access is the next step in the plans for an Espanola-area popular spot.
The Espanola Game and Fish Club owned the Black Creek Pier Picnic area and over the last year, volunteer Dennis Lendrum has been working on improving its amenities including a memorial bench, spruced up picnic tables, and marking a walking trail with interesting tidbits of nature’s news, feeders and fairy houses.
Lendrum says a woman from Saskatchewan left a note thanking him for the trail, which she was able to maneuver with her walker with assistance from family members.
Lendrum says that has led to more work to level it out even further to make it safe for everyone who wishes to use it.
He says all the work has been carried out through donations and volunteers and any support is much appreciated.
