Eleven Delta hot spots in Ontario
Although Sudbury, Manitoulin and Algoma districts have had no new cases of COVID-19 in a week, Ontario residents are being told to be aware of Delta variant hot spots where there continues to be almost daily new cases.
Eleven public health unit areas have been deemed as hot spots including Grey Bruce, the Waterloo Region, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph, Toronto, Peel, York, Durham, Halton, Hamilton, Peel, Porcupine and Simcoe-Muskoka.
All the health units are recommending maintaining COVID-19 protocols including staying two metres apart, wear your masks, wash hands and get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Travellers are also being asked to be aware of the risk they pose in travelling to these areas and to be extra cautious while in those areas.
Cases in Ontario
It’s the lowest number of new COVID-19 cases in ten months.
Provincial health officials report 166 new diagnoses yesterday, we haven’t seen a daily total that low since last September 9th.
The positivity rate was below one per cent for the sixth day in a row.
The number of people currently infected has declined to just under 16-hundred.
However, six more deaths were also reported, increasing the pandemic toll in Ontario to 92-hundred and 51.
So far, over 79 per cent of adults in Ontario have received at least one vaccine shot.
A booster shot
Officials from Pfizer will meet with American officials today, to seek emergency authorization for its COVID-19 booster shot.
The company says research shows a significant drop-off in protection against the coronavirus six months after inoculation and they want authorization to begin using a third shot.
But American health experts say booster shots aren’t needed right now.
They say the research on the protection given by vaccines is incomplete.
