The COVID REPORT – nearly at zero

A look at the local numbers …

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting no new COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row

Considering resolved cases, there are seven active cases in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts.

Health Sciences North is reporting they have two patients admitted for COVID-19 who are waiting for test results.

Neither are in intensive care.

Stage three clarity needed

Municipal leaders are calling for more clarity from the Ford government about what will be allowed under Stage Three of the province’s reopening plan.

We’re set to take the next step July 20th, which is to include increased capacity for indoor and outdoor gatherings, and the reopening of cultural and sporting events.

But no numbers have been listed.

The leaders of the major municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area say businesses and venue operators need that information before July 20th, so they can plan a resumption of their activities.

Businesses reopening

A new report from the Bank of Canada shows that business hiring intentions have hit an all-time high, as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted across the country.

Their survey shows 68 per cent of companies plan to hire more people over the next 12 months, although those businesses in the high-contact hospitality sector don’t expect to reach pre-pandemic hiring levels for at least the next year.

The outlook isn’t quite as optimistic for consumers.

Nearly half of those who lost jobs or income due to the pandemic report more difficulty now in finding work in their field than they did a year ago.
