Public Health Sudbury is reporting no new cases of COVID-19.
Considering resolved cases there are now 29 active cases in the agency’s jurisdiction.
Health Sciences North reports 12 admitted cases, four with positive results and seven waiting for test results.
Of the four, three individuals are in intensive care.
Algoma Public Health is reporting no new cases of COVID-19.
Considering resolved cases there are two active cases in the Algoma District and there are no individuals in hospital.
Coronavirus reopening
Premier Doug Ford says he’d like to get Ontario open again as soon as possible….and he’ll be talking with health experts about when we might move into Stage Three of the reopening plan.
Stage Two begins tomorrow, two days earlier than planned, and will see greater capacity allowed for businesses, the reopening of hair salons and barber shops, and increased limits on indoor and outdoor activities.
The province’s strategy calls for a three-week wait between stages, and Ford says he’d like to move as soon as possible.
But he remains concerned about the spread of the more-contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, which makes up a majority of the new cases discovered daily in our province.
Coronavirus and schools
A coalition of teachers’ and service unions says public education will suffer, if teachers are forced to use the hybrid model this fall.
The province has ordered school boards to provide students with an in-person and an on-line teaching option during the next school year.
But the group says the proposal will sharply increase the stress levels on teachers, and children who choose on-line learning will suffer.
