A new commission has been set up to oversee the management and development of the Mississagi Provincial Park.
Elliot Lake councilor Ed Pearce says the Mississagi Provincial Park Commission has been in the works for well over a year.
Located just north of Elliot Lake, the park will be overseen by the commission made up of members from the city, as well as Mississauga and Serpent River First Nations.
Pearce told council the park will operate from May to September under the continued management of the city, but the commission will be able to facilitate the development of what is already there and possible expansion.
Pearce adds now the commission has been unanimously endorsed by council this week, official appointments will be made and the members will enter into discussions with the Ontario government on development and revenue sharing.
