A cruise ship with 35-hundred people onboard is due to dock in Oakland, California, today, after spending several days at sea over fears of the coronavirus.
At least 21 people on board have tested positive.
The 237 Canadians on board will be flown to C-F-B Trenton by the federal government, where they will be held in quarantine for two weeks.
Here in Canada, there have been a total of 67 cases.
Four new infections were reported in Ontario yesterday, bringing the province’s total to 32.
B-C has 27 cases, while Alberta and Quebec have four each.
In Italy, 16-million people, one-quarter of the country’s population, are under lockdown today.
It has blockaded several provinces including the fashion and financial center of Milan and the tourist hub of Venice, to try to limit the number of cases in the country.
So far, there are more than 7,000 people suffering from the virus in Italy, with almost 400 deaths.
The number of cases, world-wide now tops 107-thousand.
But the rates of infection in China and South Korea appear to be slowing.
Closer to home, both the Algoma and Sudbury Public Health are staying in touch with their national and other counterparts and have protocols in place in case the virus shows up in the North.
