Reconstruction needed on Sagamok Millennium Centre

Leaks from the roof of the Sagamok Millennium Centre has led to the closure of some sections.

Ross Assinewe, Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation’s Infrastructure Director says an initial assessment by a structural engineer shows the north wall needs reconstruction, but first, a shoring support wall has to be built.

He adds they are also waiting for an engineering report before beginning the construction of the shoring wall.

Two sections of the centre, the Bingo Hall and Sunrise Room were closed in mid-January due to the leaks.

Until further notice, both areas are closed to the public and programming is cancelled for the time being.
