Two school boards affected by one-day strikes

A local area school board is affected by two one-day strikes this week.

The Rainbow District School Board has closed its elementary schools today, and are also looking at another closure on Thursday due to one-day strikes by the teachers’ union, the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. These include AB Ellis Public in Espanola, S. Geiger in Massey, and all their other schools on Manitoulin Island and in Sudbury.

Huron-Superior Roman Catholic School Board has also closed both its elementary and secondary schools today due to ongoing action by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association. This includes Sacred Heart in Espanola and St. Mary in Massey, and other schools throughout the Algoma District.

There are ongoing negotiations with the Ontario government, but there is still an impasse with all four teachers’ unions in the province.
