Procedures underway to assist local public health units re. coronavirus

The federal and provincial boards of health are working closely with local health units such as Sudbury & Districts Public Health to ensure that procedures are in place to deal with the new coronavirus that has emerged from China.

One of the first steps the agency states is legislating the 2019 novel coronavirus as a designated disease reportable under Ontario’s public health legislation.

This will enable local health units including Sudbury and Algoma Public Health to quickly take all necessary measures to investigate, complete lab tests, and carry out case and contact management to prevent further spread of the infection.

That process is underway.

The unit also states there have been meetings with hospitals and other health units near Pearson International Airport to provide information on their federal border screening measures, which then can be implemented in other airports, such as Sudbury.
