A Manitoulin Island First Nation plans to increase its beds for a long-term care facility.
The Wiikwemikoong Nursing home is planning a new build and the board has announced they will be submitting an application to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care for approval to increase their beds from 59 to 96.
They will also be applying for the funding for the project, but will also need assistance from the public.
Design plans are now complete and the next step in the process is to start the fundraising.
The WNH Playing with the Queen of Hearts initiative is now underway.
Final costs will be determined as part of the application process.
The board says they will also host community consultations later this Spring.
