Getting real time weather a bonus for Elliot Lake

Knowing what the weather is on any given day is always on the minds of most people

Getting real time weather forecasts will be just one of the boons of a new weather system in Elliot Lake.

Elliot Lake council has approved spending $118,000 for the purchase of the Vaisala Automation Weather System, which will produce real time 24-hour-a-day weather data out of the Elliot Lake Airport.

Robotic in nature, the high tech system will gather information on all aspects of weather from temperature to wind speed to precipitation and other meteorological data.
That data will also be fed to the Weather Network and other weather forecasting in Canada and around the world.

The system can also be upgraded, so as new technologies develop, it can keep up with the times.

Council already approved a $150,000 budget for the new system, so all costs will be covered.
The weather equipment should be installed at the Elliot Lake Airport in a few months.
