Elliot Lake’s Coldest Night of the Year

Homeless men in Elliot Lake will have access to a newly furnished temporary shelter thanks to over 100 walkers and over 45 volunteers.

Melody Rose, the executive director of Maplegate House for Women says the Coldest Night of the Year held this past weekend raised over $20,000.

In 2016, Maplegate House for Women, which is run by the Elliot Lake Women’s Group, unveiled the ‘Something More’ project, which came to fruition with council’s approval this past January.

She says the supporters came together to raise funds to furnish Maplegate’s new men’s shelter called Larry’s Place and for the new transitional home for women facing housing barriers.
