Rescued seagull saga does not have happy ending

A saga of a seagull has touched the hearts of many people across the country, and around the world.
A seagull that was trapped on a hydro line in Elliot Lake had been rescued after three days, but the rescue story is a sad one because the bird had to be put down due to the extent of his injuries.

But, that’s not before he became a social media superstar.

It all started when a concerned citizen of Elliot Lake, Cynthia Pearson, made several calls to local authorities and to Ontario Hydro with her concerns about the bird that was still alive and trying to free itself.
Finally her pleas were answered when a crew from Hydro was sent in to Elliot Lake Tuesday night and freed the bird around 9PM.

The bird’s situation also provoked an outcry from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which issued an alert yesterday and was updating members and followers on Wednesday.

Pearson said Hydro One had been “flooded with emails” from PETA supporters “from all over North America.”

She said media attention and pressure from the animal rights group likely expedited the rescue on Tuesday night, but in her view it should have happened much sooner and the gull might still be alive now if that had been the case.
The bird had a broken wing and was taken by the hydro crew to Wild at Heart in Lively, which is a Wild Life Refuge.
The Bird was nicknamed by the crew as Steven Seagal, one of their favourite actors.
Unfortunately, Moose News learned earlier today that the bird had to be put down.
