Submerged plane found and pilot’s body recovered

The body of a pilot in a lake west of Sudbury has been found. An underwater search and recovery unit from the OPP found 61-year-old Brian Hickey not far from his float plane’s fuselage. Hickey’s plane hit the water of Fairbank Lake Wednesday around 8:00pm.

His passenger, a 32 year-old man, hung onto to one of the planes broken pontoons while waiting for nearby homeowners to pull him from the water. The man was treated for minor injuries and the search was on for the missing pilot. At this time it’s not known where the passenger and pilot are from.  The Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the crash.
