Algoma public school students have some catching up to match their provincial counterparts in the 3 R’s. Grade 6 students are nine to 12 points below the provincial average in reading, writing and math. The Grade 3 students in Algoma are seven to 12 percentage points behind the average. The biggest gap for Grade 3 students is reading where they scored 60 percent but the provincial average is 72 percent. Grade 6 Algoma students hit 68 percent in writing, but the provincial average is 80 percent.
