Blue-green algae found in Clear Lake

Some blue-green algae has shown up south of Espanola in Clear Lake.  Provincial testing identified the algae and the Sudbury and District Health Unit is now aware of the situation.  The health unit is telling people to watch for the blooms especially if they’re close to your property or water intake line.  People should not use the water for cooking.

Also don’t drink it or use it for bathing.  The health unit adds people should not swim in the water and don’t let your pets drink it.  Boiling the water doesn’t get rid of the blooms, rather it just releases more toxins.  You have to wait for the bloom to dissipate on its own.
