Mining company appealing verdict

A Sudbury-based mining company that sued the provincial government over gold mining claims has lost its case, but the company says it will appeal.  In 2013 Northern Superior Resources sued the province for $110-million claiming the province failed to consult with a First Nation about its gold claims in Northwestern Ontario.

The judge rejected the lawsuit saying the province did not have to consult with the First Nation but Northern disagrees.  Northern eventually lost its gold claims triggering the lawsuit.   In losing the case, Northern was ordered to pay $440,000 in legal costs but that’s on hold while it appeals the lower court verdict.
