NOHFC providing a boost to farmers in the northeast

More than two dozen farmers in Algoma and the Sudbury West regions might be able to increase their farm production. It’s all thanks to a grant the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is making to farming clusters in the northeast.

In this case, the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre will disperse almost $800,000 to 29 farmers in the Algoma and Sudbury West area. The money will be applied to almost 1,400 acres of land to either clear it for more production or to install drainage systems.

Part of the money will also help some farms remove excess water on their land which should lead to more crops. The grant is one of four handed out by the Heritage Fund.

Farmers in Temiskaming, Cochrane and a cluster in the Nipissing – Sudbury region will share nearly $3 million to improve their land.
