Councillor upset that colleagues removed her from ELNOS board

Elliot Lake councillor Connie Nykyforak has been bounced as council’s rep on the ELNOS board and she doesn’t like it.  Deputy Mayor Luc Cyr wanted her to stay on ELNOS but no one would second his motion.  The mayor also wanted her to continue, but as chair he can’t second motions.   With no seconder, that opened the door for councillor Scot Reinhart to nominate Norman Mann who eventually became the new appointee.

Nykyforak voiced her displeasure about the process and felt there was ill-will toward her by some of her colleagues.  Nykyforak told her colleagues she was disappointed with their decision to replace her considering she had become familiar with how ELNOS works and wasn’t even on the board for a year.   Earlier in the debating process, Reinhart wanted the issue to go in-camera even though council was dealing with elected officials and not city personnel.

However, Mayor Dan Marchisella kept the debate in the public eye.   The decision to appoint Mann passed 4-3 with only the mayor, deputy mayor and Nykyforak voting to maintain the status quo.
