Council discusses golf course amendments

Possible amendments might be made to the golf contract the City of Elliot Lake has with Retirement Living which manages the golf course.  Council voted to discuss the issue behind closed doors in a 6-1 vote with Mayor Dan Marchisella the lone dissenter.   Marchisella favoured an open debate saying what’s being discussed is amendments to a service agreement.

Marchisella also told council he has major problems with the existing contract and doesn’t like the piece-meal approach to negotiations.  He also highlighted one provision in the contract which he referred to as the $1 million noose that hangs over city council.

In the end council discussed the possible amendments behind closed doors using solicitor-client privilege as its rationale.   Deputy mayor Luc Cyr favoured a behind-the-scenes discussion because it lets council debate the issue without showing its entire hand.
