Hughes not happy with the government’s response to reinstating the Algoma passenger train

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes is not happy with the liberal governments approach to the Algoma passenger train. She says the liberal government is content to live with their predecessors mistakes regarding this ongoing issue. The minister says all the communities on the line are served by public roads, but Hughes says that’s not the truth. She says that Oba has no public roads and the residents and businesses are left with no access to their property.

Hughes says the ministry of transportation is prepared to pass the file onto another ministry rather than commit to a proposal that would see the train as a not-for profit venture. Hughes says the service is a key piece of the tourist economy for Northern Ontario and could bring in up to $38 million in economic activity.
