Child benefit cheques to start arriving this month

Parents should start receiving federal child benefit cheques by July 20th.  The Minister for Status of Women, Patty Hajdu says the average cheque will be about $2,300.

However if the total family income is under $30,000, then the family will receive $6,400 for every child under six.  Hajdu says this is a major improvement from the past program and will help create a better life for children now facing poverty.

The money from the cheques is tax free and parents can use it for whatever they like including covering children’s dental costs.
