The federal government is investing over $380 million for First Nations health services, but Charlie Angus wants to see more information. The MP for Timmins-James Bay says he is pleased to see the feds are getting their act together in this crisis for Indigenous children. However, Angus points out the government has been facing court action over this.
He says it’s the result of a Human Rights Tribunal complaint against them. He says the fact that they’re recognizing their legal obligation is good news, but the question remains what will the money mean, where is it going to go, and how will it get to the children who need it most.
The $382 million dollar investment is going to go into implementing Jordan’s Principle. That was a rule adopted by the House of Commons in 2007 to ensure equal access to health care for First Nation children.
