There’s been a drowning near Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island. A 56-year-old woman from Gore Bay drowned Wednesday while swimming at a public beach. The fatal incident took place at Tobacco Lake in Gordon Township. Efforts at artificial respiration and CPR failed and hospital officials pronounced the woman dead. The victim has been identified as Penny Chmielak. Although police don’t consider the death suspicious, there will be a post mortem to determine how the woman died.
