LHIN supports new hospital for Elliot Lake

It’s a big step forward in Elliot Lake’s quest for a new hospital.  Mayor Dan Marchisella says the North East Local Health Integration Network is supporting the community’s drive for a new hospital.  And the LHIN has sent a letter to the city, hospital and Ministry of Health confirming its support.  Marchisella says the next step is to get the ministry to actually approve construction of a new healthcare facility.

He wants this done sooner than later so council can introduce an annual levy and the community can raise its share of the cost over a period of years instead of getting hit with a large bill all at once.  A new hospital would cost $80 to $100-million and the local share would be 10 percent of that.
