Kashechewan residents are able to go home, as the evacuation is called off

Kashechewan Elders have determined the flooding risk is over in the First Nation community, allowing evacuated residents to return home. Manager of Protective Services Gerry Demeules says flights will be heading back to the community this week. Hundreds of people will be leaving host communities like Kapuskasing and Thunder Bay throughout the week.

The community is forced to evacuate nearly every year as their levee is crumbling and the Albany River floods.
