A couple of Espanola residents have been hit with $150 tickets each for illegal burns in separate incidents. In one case a homeowner was burning brush on his property but needed the fire department’s help when the flames got out of control. The firefighters quickly killed the fire but the homeowner was charged for failing to get a burn permit.
In a separate incident, firefighters put out a fire that was started by young people. The teens left the area without extinguishing their fire and by the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had grown to 30 by 40 feet. So far police have found one of the teens and he’s charged with failing to supervise and control a fire.
