Sudbury Health Unit not happy with a move to remove fluoride from water by Nairn and Hyman Township

Nairn and Hyman Township council’s decision to remove fluoride from its water is spurring the Sudbury and District Board of Health into action. The health unit wants the province to mandate all municipalities to fluoridate their water.

Medical officer of health Doctor Penny Sutcliffe says fluoride helps prevent tooth decay. Sutcliffe adds council’s decision is a backward move that will worsen the oral health of children, seniors and low-income families.

Earlier this month Nairn council voted 3-2 to switch to non-fluoridated water.
