Elliot Lake council is making a multi-year commitment to the annual drag races. It’s a three year deal so organizers aren’t left wondering each year if the municipality is on board.
However the decision wasn’t unanimous with councillor Scot Reinhart opposed. Reinhart objected for several reasons including not buying that multi-year deals help secure sponsorships. He says sponsors don’t make three year agreements, they take it one year at a time. He says he doesn’t think the city will get any commitments because sponsorship businesses are in flux.
But councillor Tammy VanRoon disagrees, saying the best time to secure sponsorships is while the event is still fresh in everyone’s minds.
