Low dollar creates winners and losers

Among the winners of a low Canadian dollar is the lumber mill in White river.  The mill sat empty for six years then was re-opened three years ago and employs about 150 people.  The low loonie has made wood at the mill very cheap for the U-S and the operation expects to turn a huge profit.  The mill won’t be adding to its workforce but it will use the profit to help pay for more modernizations.

The mayor of White River says while the extra work the mill gets is good news for his town, it’s bad news for groceries.  Mayor Angelo Bazzoni says northerners in remote communities are paying a lot more food because of the dropping dollar.
