Dos and don’ts of flying drones

A popular Christmas gift this season were unmanned drones which are officially known as Unmanned Aerial Systems.  The OPP with the East Algoma detachment have some advice for the public on how to use the aerial devices safely.  Keep the drones within sight when flying them and don’t fly them over private property or take pictures without permission.

You need to keep the drones far enough from moving vehicles so you don’t distract drivers.  Also don’t fly the drones within nine kilometres of an airport or in a way that interferes with first responders.  Other don’ts are avoiding restricted air space and don’t fly over a forest fire.  There are hefty fines of up to $25,000 is you’re convicted of breaking drone-related laws.
