More changes to procedural by-law

Elliot Lake city council is formalizing the practice of letting the public record meetings in the council chambers.  There was never prohibited, but now council is making it official after changes to its procedural by-law.  Mayor Dan Marchisella says people have to keep one rule in mind.  They need to ensure that while recording, they don’t cause any noise or anything that could disrupt a meeting.

Another major change is the section dealing with motions for reconsideration.   Now any councillor can bring back a defeated resolution as early as the next meeting.  Under the old rule, councillors had to wait a year before bringing back a motion and it could only be re-introduced by councillors who defeated the resolution in the first place.  It’s taken council nearly a year to re-vamp its procedural by-law and it’s expected to take effect sometime in the New Year.
